They Did Not Know We Were Seeds
The installation served as a poignant tribute to the resilience and joy within Black communities. Visitors immersed themselves in the experience, becoming puppeteers as they guided a Black puppet through the historical narrative, evoking the innocence and happiness of a young Black girl.
The space offered a diverse array of programming suitable for all ages. Musical story hours celebrated Black culture, allowing children to embrace their heritage with joy. Ceremonies and workshops delved into the history and healing properties of indigo dyeing, fostering community connection and exploration.
"They Did Not Know We Were Seeds" provided a gathering place for healing and reflection, reminding visitors of the enduring legacy of joy and care within their collective history.
